Cass County Federal Release Routes
No Federal Bureau of Prisons institution was identified in Cass County. A person connected to Cass County may still enter federal custody after a federal arrest, U.S. Marshals transport, conviction, or designation to a BOP institution elsewhere. Geography is not the search key. Use the person's federal identifier or identity fields and follow the institution named in the federal record.
A BOP release can mean the person left BOP custody for the community, court-ordered supervision, another correctional system, or another lawful destination. The locator's “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” language is limited to BOP. It does not establish that the person is free of state, county, immigration, or other federal custody. When the Cass County jail record names USMS as receiver, the local book-out was a transfer, not a BOP release.
Confirm a Federal Bureau Release
The BOP Inmate Locator is the public starting point. The BOP's locator record explanation describes federal inmate coverage from 1982 forward. Search with a federal number when one is known, because identifiers reduce same-name errors and may connect a person whose name has changed or was entered differently.
- Choose the search type. Use a BOP register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number, or search by name.
- Add identity fields. A name search accepts first, middle, and last name with optional race, age, and sex fields.
- Read the exact status. Record the displayed release date and location or status without turning a projected field into an actual event.
- Check the court case. Use the federal case number to review the detention order, judgment, sentence, and any supervised-release terms.
- Follow a handoff. If another agency assumed custody, verify that agency's intake before describing community release.
The locator result is strongest when it matches the person's register number and federal docket. A same-name record or a blank search is weak proof. For the full county-to-federal sequence, use the Cass County released inmate search and keep each custody phase on its own timeline.
The official BOP locator shown below demonstrates the federal search route and its identifier-based options.
The federal interface should be used for BOP custody only. It is not a substitute for the Cass County jail record or the federal court docket.
Federal Bureau Release Record Fields
BOP locator results expose a defined group of identity and status fields. Copy each label as displayed. The release date may change during sentence recalculation, so an old screenshot should not override the current agency record or later official production.
| Field | What it supports |
|---|---|
| Name | Identifies the federal record, subject to same-name checks. |
| Register number | Provides the best public key for the BOP record. |
| Age, race, and sex | Help distinguish people but should not stand alone. |
| Release date | Reports the date in the BOP system and may be recalculated. |
| Location or status | Can show an institution, “Released,” or “Not in BOP Custody.” |
A BOP result does not supply the complete federal case history. PACER supplies the court docket, including available detention and release orders, judgment, sentence, and supervised-release terms. The court record explains legal authority, while the BOP entry describes the federal corrections phase.
Cass County Federal Court Verification
Search the PACER Case Locator for the actual federal case, then open the district docket. The national index is updated about nightly. It can identify the court, case number, parties, filing, and closure, subject to limits for sealed cases and older documents. Cass County lies within the Eastern District of Texas, but the docket should identify the actual filing division before an office is contacted.
A closed case does not by itself mean release from incarceration. Likewise, a judgment date is not necessarily the day BOP custody ended. Compare the court's order and sentence with the BOP release field. If supervised release follows prison, the supervision terms come from the court record and responsible federal office, not from Cass County probation or TDCJ parole.
Note: Keep the judgment date, BOP release date, and supervision endpoint separate because each records a different federal event.
USMS Custody Before BOP Placement
The U.S. Marshals Service commonly controls federal pretrial detention and transports sentenced prisoners. It has no public general prisoner or release locator comparable to BOP. A federal defendant may be held in a contract local facility before BOP designation, so no BOP hit at that stage does not prove release.
Use the arresting agency, contract facility, federal court docket, and later BOP record as a chain. The USMS Eastern District of Texas page lists official district contacts. Research identifies Texarkana at 903-793-8782 and Marshall at 903-935-5737. First confirm the case and division through PACER. Staff contact is not a substitute for a public locator that does not exist.
ICE Transfer After BOP Custody
An immigration detainer can turn departure from BOP custody into a transfer rather than community release. ICE describes a detainer as a request for advance notice so immigration officers may assume custody. If the federal record or release paperwork names ICE as receiver, the BOP phase has ended, but federal immigration custody may have begun.
Follow the ICE Online Detainee Locator System and the responsible ERO route instead of describing the person as free. ICE states that ODLS covers current detainees and can include people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days. A blank result does not prove community release, removal, citizenship, or location. Strong verification pairs the BOP departure with the ICE intake or later ICE release paperwork.
Read Federal Bureau Release Status Carefully
“Released” is a corrections status, not a complete statement about the person's legal position. A federal sentence can include a term of supervised release after incarceration. The judgment and later court orders control those terms. The BOP locator does not become a probation-office search merely because it shows that prison custody ended.
“Not in BOP Custody” is also narrow. It may be accurate while USMS, a state agency, a county jail, or ICE holds the person. Follow dates in order. Start with the Cass County book-out when local custody came first. Add the federal detention and judgment events. Then add BOP designation and the displayed release date. If a new agency appears, confirm its intake rather than assuming a gap means community release.
Dates need their full labels. An arrest date, judgment date, projected release date, actual BOP release date, and supervision discharge date answer different questions. Do not copy one into another field. When a locator result changes, save the observation date and seek the agency record that resolves the conflict.
Resolve Cass County Federal Record Conflicts
Each office controls the record it created. A wrong Cass County book-out time belongs with the sheriff. A wrong federal judgment field belongs with the court. A BOP identifier, location, or release-history issue belongs with BOP. One office's shared geography or role in the same case does not let it rewrite another agency's source record.
When making an inquiry, provide the register number, full name, date of birth or another allowed identifier, the federal case number, and the exact field in dispute. Attach the official record that shows the conflict. Ask for correction or explanation of that field, not a broad search across unrelated people. This keeps the request tied to a specific custody history.
Keep a dated copy of the locator result and the source document used for comparison. If the record once showed a future date and later shows a different release date, describe the change without guessing at its cause. Sentence computation, court action, or another agency event may be relevant, but only the responsible federal record can establish why the field changed.
Federal Bureau Records and Contacts
Because there is no Cass County BOP institution, there is no local federal prison desk to list. Use the BOP locator for public status and the institution shown in the record for institution-specific questions. Use PACER for the court file. Use USMS district contacts for a properly identified Marshals matter, subject to what staff may disclose.

For a Cass County jail handoff, request the sheriff's book-out entry and receiving-agency field from the Cass County Sheriff's Office. That local record proves when county custody ended. The federal entry proves what happened in the receiving system.
About Cass County Federal Custody
The Federal Bureau of Prisons is a nationwide corrections system, not a building in Cass County. No BOP institution or federal contract facility was verified within the county. A federal arrestee can move through USMS-controlled detention, a contract bed, and a designated BOP institution outside Texas or elsewhere in the state. Searching only nearby facilities is unreliable.
The distinction also protects against false conclusions from county data. If the Cass County jail reports “release to USMS,” county custody ended but federal custody began or continued. If BOP later reports “Released,” that closes the BOP phase only. Another warrant, immigration action, or supervision term can still matter, and each must be checked in its own official system.
